Faramir was Dunedain. The Stewards of Gondor were descended from a
Numenorean family, according to Appendix A. Still, your point is valid.

I don't mind some of the bits they cut out. They left out a *lot*, and the
movie was still three hours. Some things were also changed to increase the
tension, like the Nazgul buzzing them in the Dead Marshes in TT. Otherwise
it would just have been two hobbits and one ex-hobbit slogging through a
swamp. I found that the faithfulness fell to bits just after they left
Edoras (in the 'Book III' thread) and after the encounter with the Rangers
of Ithilien (in Book IV).
*Elves* at *Helm's Deep*? My reaction to that was "What?!," which
Smeagol/Gollum echoed a bit later when he was talking to himself.

The Istari were forbidden to use overt power by the Valar, so maybe their
human bodies didn't come with those features. Of course, Mithrandir zapped
the Nazgul with a white light at the Battle of the Pelennor, and Saruman
had fallen into darkness and defied the Valar.

That certainly fits with the mythology Tolkien established. Sauron was
overthrown 'cause he poured his power into the Ring, and he lost that power
when it was destroyed. I can't see Saruman investing that much in a
puppet-king, though, and the book seemed to suggest that it was Grima's
mutterings in his ear that laid Theoden low, and no sorcery from Saruman.
I'll need to reread that passage to be sure, though.

Curse Berman for snubbing Wil Wheaton and not inviting him to the Nemesis premiere.
