Kenn,

I scoured IBM/Lenovo's websites and there is no IBM Thinkpad
Model 610 listed anywhere.
They only list models 600, 600E and 600X, which were first
introduced in 1998 and obsoleted in 1999.  The 600 & 600E had
Pentium II processors up to 366MHz, the 600x had a Mobile
Pentium III, either 500 or 650MHz.  I would have your wife try
to get the exact Model & Series information from the IBM service
tag on the boffom of the unit.  Then you can really figure out
what it is.

The 600 series thinkpads were nice machines in their time, but I
wouldn't waste $$$ on one now, when you can buy refurbished 1.2
P4 notebooks online for $400!
