| subject: | Re: [OS2HW] Monitor problems |
Hello John
This may possibly be normal operation for some monitors. I had an
Envision monitor that boasted particular specs that seemed too good to be
true for such a cheap monitor. Perhaps it was indeed too good to be true
because switching between monitors revealed a very different look to the
desktop resolution such as icon size and even the event that you have
mentioned where the desktop seems to zoom to a lower resolution then
recovers back to user setting. I am not at all certain how this is
achieved but I strongly suspect this is an example of "derived"
or "pseudo" resolution.
In my case with the Envision 19incher, after only a month of use it
appears one of the guns (red) or circuit driving the gun may have failed
because red is now impossible and everything is some shade of blue-green. I
have no idea, yet, if this is connected to the resolution problem or simply
because the monitor was *so* cheap ($89 new after rebate for a 19"
CRT) but I hope to find time to fix it since the picture, while different
from "normal" monitors, was not at all bad and I wouldn't at all
mind trying two 19's for display, even if it would only work outside OS/2,
since Linux is stealing more and more of my PC time.
Jimmy
PS if any of you check "raw" No, I haven't switched to Mac I'm
just visiting relatives
