subject: [OS2HW] Re: Toshiba2060cdsLaptopNotebook

Hi again Don,

Well that really should have only taken me 5 minutes to change the drive, I
had forgotten how easy an operation it was. Whoever installed the original
used mismatched screws holding the pull bracket to the drive, and I had to
be inventive to get the screws out.

I have 2 2060CDS's and have been unbelieveably happy with them, nary a
hiccup or crash, and multiple booting all these years, 98,ME, XP, Warpv4,
ECS1.0,1.1 and 1.2. It handled everything I threw at it.

I am now however become impatient, and I'm used to the speed of my desktop,
and the 2060cds is far behind speed wise. I've been trying to find a
replacement that is as adaptable as the 2060CDS, but faster, but ECS
friendly. Probably I would like a dual cpu, a 16:9 display. Of course a DVD
r/w. Trouble is there is too much choice out there.

I have looked for ECS compatibilty hardware lists, but they do seem inadaquate.

You too must have upgraded, which laptop would you recommend these days?

Thanks again.

Hi Kevin

I saw your posting on the OS/2 Hardware list. I also own an older Toshiba
notebook and I bought a CD on eBay a while ago with a bunch of Toshiba
Service Manuals. The attached file should answer all of your questions. I
really wouldn't call it a full service manual - but it does cover all
replacing all FRUs (Field Replaceable Units). I have replaced the hard
drive and DVD drive in my SatellitePro 4280 XDVD with the help of one of
these manuals. It's good to find someone who can use another one these
manuals - especially another OS/2 user.

Good Luck

Don
