Don't touch Optiplex GX 270 or 280 with the proverbial bargepole. We
bought 150 of these last year and we're rapidly (2-3 per week)
working though replacing every mainboard and HDD. The capacitors
blow on the 270's and HDD's fail on the 280. Or maybe it's the SATA
controller on the 280's, Dell appear to have no interest in finding
out what the real problem is. Some users are on their 3rd. disk.

For business PC's this is really more of a pain in the bum than
anything else - one user lost 4 hours work because it was "quicker
to save to c:\temp than the network drive" but that was about the
only data loss - but ask me how many man hours spent replacing disks
and rebuilding PC's though and I would be less than happy if I was a
home user without very regular backups.

I run several ex-work Dell Precision 410 & 420's at home that are
bullet-proof, plus a couple of Optiplex GX110 that have also
performed very well, so there are very good ones about.

Regards,

Simon.
