| subject: | Spirit connects? |
Angus, at 13:55 on Aug 10 1996, you wrote to Tom Przeor... AT> I was wondering have you had any problems connecting to a Spirit AT> Viper 28800? I connect to Trev Roydhouse's 33600 no probs.. however every AT> few calls to John Inkson (The Battle Bridge 3:714/932) for either mail or AT> to play BRE the connects are only /ARQ/V34/NONE. I do get LAP-M every other AT> time its just the odd occasions. This gets annoying as with no error AT> correction in a mail poll I get so many errors the front-end gives up and AT> is a waste of a call. With the 20.16MHz Couriers and Sportsters, adding S27=48 to your dialling string will solve this problem by disabling the V.42 detect phase, and forcing a LAPM connect. The newer Sportsters/Dynalinks have had their S-registers remapped, and whilst I'm fairly sure that S15=128 performs the same function, I'd suggest that you check with Tom Przeor, just to be on the safe side. BTW, according to USR's Tech Support fellows, the actual cause of this problem is a faulty implementation of V.42 in some Rockwell chipset-based modems.
