ZR> So, you actually mark your son as /absent/ on days when he is sick?
ZR> Do you do this just for your own records, or is it a state
ZR> requirement??
I do that because he still wants some of the structure of regular school
and because he has days he refuses to do things or be a part of school.
This way certain things I want to go over I will remember. I have a
lesson plan I follow and every 3 weeks we go over some of what we were
studing. Then I see if there is still a problem with something and work
on it some more until all is well. Also the marking absent is to protect
us since Michigan changed the law on homeschool to being very general.
If the school system wanted to they could fight us. So I am trying to be
very organized since that is one a clause in the new law.
ZR> I never even thought of doing that. Well, I teach Aaron six days each
ZR> week... sometimes seven. I want to skip Fridays and make that our
ZR> day of rest, but I haven't been too successful at 'resting' the last
ZR> two Fridays. We also don't go by any hourly schedule,
ZR> and actually do projects from the time he gets up until just before I
ZR> pass out at night. In between our homeschool projects, he plays. On
ZR> our time sheet, I just count the minutes that each project lasted.
Our day of rest is Sunday. We spend 2 hours at Church and that is in
the afternoon. Today we went for a walk and picked different leaves and
talked about our environment and how it effects us. This is what we are
studying in Science.
