The NetComm equivalent to the Hayes Signal Quality Select (S108), which Dave
mentioned, is the EQM. The Eye Quality Monitor (EQM) doesn't really set the
"aggressiveness", it specifies how *tolerant* the modem is of bad lines.
The EQM is handled by two S registers: S45 (=098) for V.22 and V/22bis
connections, and S33 (=003) for V.32, V.32bis, V.FC and V.34 connections.
I find that the S33 value is far too low so I use S33=120.
The only real way to control how aggressively the M34F seeks a particular
speed is to use the "!" suffix to the "B" command.
(NOT a good idea IMHO)
eg B15! will cause the M34F to disconnect if it can't maintain 14400 bps
B22! will cause the M34F to disconnect if it can't maintain 28800 bps
