I know what you mean.  I also have a AR8K and a Pro-2006 and use both
Scancat Gold and Scanstar Commercial Edition.  I also have Ben's Radio
Manager but with the other radio...I like Scanstar Golds interface
better, but I did not like the way they treated me when I asked for help
(I have a paid registered version and they treated me poorly) so for
that and other technical reasons I primarily use Scancat Gold.  The
interface is a tad harder to get used to but it works just fine and the
people there are much more customer oriented.  Although I am not real
technically oriented, I would be glad to answer any questions you might
have.
