I agree.

Here's what I use for backup to DVD:
                                                   =
=20
mkisofs2 -v -J -joliet-long -U -hpfsnames -r -o q:\dvd.iso %1 %2 %3 %4
%5 %6 %7
dvddao -d 0,1,0 -v 3 --speed 2 --priority 3,31 -b 256 -f 1024k -e
--verify q:\dvd.iso =
=20
=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20
                                                                      =
=20
=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20
in this case, the "Q" partition must be JFS in order to handle filesize
>2G

Sans JFS, you could try a pipe:
mkisofs2 -v -J -joliet-long -U -hpfsnames -r %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 |
dvddao -d 0,1,0 -v 3 --speed 2 --priority 3,31 -b 256 -f 1024k -e -

the above as a single command; note the trailing '-' for input to
dvddao via piped stdin; also, there's nothing to --verify here, but
just as well because you'd be better served by a recursive diff anyway.

The inputs are filenames, directores, or graft-points assignments in
the form of name=3Dpath

Please adjust by testing on RW media, but this is a good start and a
long time to work it up.

The alternative to working with ISO filesystems (mksisofs is "make ISO
filesystem") is to use the UDF filesystem by installing
IFS=3DN:\OS2\BOOT\UDF.IFS and then using COPY; but that doesn't work for
me because my burner isn't supported and/or is installed together with
another CD reader.
