But why wouldn't I? Given my age I have been fortunate to need very little
contact with doctors over the years, but there has been some contact and
when forced to deal with them it helps to pay a little attention to what
they can or cannot be expected to do, let alone the efficacy of what they
may recommend.

I am certainly not a passive user of doctors. They will test you do death if you
allow it and it is for me to decide how far I want to let that process go.
That requires a little judgment on my part, but recommending tests also
requires judgment on the doctor's part as well. In effect, his judgments on
what he thinks is appropriate and mine on what I am willing to tolerate.
The judgment on
both sides is subjective to a degree and comes from the differing
perspectives, his as a doctor and mine as a not so patient patient.
