Eric Ooms was whinging to All about www speed. EO> I happened to be reading a computer magazine when I saw an article on EO> the "Information Super-Highway". As the article correctly suggested EO> there is no way the WWW could be called the "Information super EO> Highway" It's much more like an "Information Super Footpath". EO> According to the article - even if you have a 28.8 modem, at peak EO> hour you may recieve files at 300bps. The article continued it EO> correctly state that there was not enough DIRECT links across the EO> world - especially to USA. Okay, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a lot about the Internet, but I have picked up a few things along the way. Since Tel$tra bought out AARNet (our main gateway out of Australia), the inet has started to collapse under it's own weight. Tel$tra simple aren't expanding their services enough to cope with the demand. Fortunetly, several ISPs have started to set up their own links. There are two servers in WA that I know of who have done this and the performance has improved dramatically. I know a lot of servers also force users down to only 14.4k so they can get more users onto their limited bandwidth. * AmyBW v2.11 * --- Blue Wave/Maximus* Origin: RAINBOW BBS Mt Barker WA (098)511-497 (3:690/756) SEEN-BY: 50/99 620/243 623/630 624/300 640/820 690/115 245 254 354 370 380 SEEN-BY: 690/396 410 416 420 442 500 613 640 650 658 660 676 682 718 750 756 SEEN-BY: 711/401 409 410 413 430 510 808 809 899 930 932 934 712/515 713/888 SEEN-BY: 714/906 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 690/756 370 660 711/409 808 809 934 |
