Making your own fuel is not so difficult - I used to make it in 55-gal
quantities for my own club up to several years ago. A good "sport" mix
is 20 % oil, 10 % nitromethane, and 70 % methanol (also known as wood
alcohol or methyl alcohol). The oil content is critical, any less than
18 % will ruin an engine, anything higher than 22 % won't run very well.
Nitromethane is hard to get now since there are no US suppliers - the
last I bought was obtained from a fuel mfg - he gets it from Germany.
I suggest using a 50/50 mixture of castor oil and high quality synthetic
for hot climates (like ours in SC) but you can get by with all synthetic
in colder climates where the engine heat can be easily dissipated. We
live only 75 miles from a fuel mfg, so the club usually buys it in 55-gal
quantites for about $6.00 US per gallon. I use big engines (.90 and
bigger) which CONSUME A LOT of fuel so this price doesn't hurt too much.
