I don't find that all that remarkable.
In social groups there are 3 behaviors
(In my opinion I think they are based on the
basic drive of food in/waste out)
1. move toward others for nurturing (which the new Forest Troop accented) -
often associated with female behavior (befriend of 'tend and befriend'
behavior)
2. move against others (behavior of the bully baboons.
- often associated with male behavior (fight of 'fight and flight')
3. move away from others - often associated with male behavior (flight of
'fight and flight')
All 3 behaviors (collective or individual behavior) have positive and negative
aspects to the society. Baboons have shifted their behavior a bit to better
respond to their world, but I think that's reasonable behavior.
