Don't forget dolphins have a language of sorts and it is not
connected to making tools.
On both counts it is more likely
to strong social behavior and strong
mother/child bonds more than
tool making IMO.

Then in those terms you see that language may have more likely been the baby's
cry for food/nurturing, and language a way to support and promote the
mother/child bond . Also note that the mother is the childs teacher during most
of the important early phase of brain development.

Male biologists like to talk of tools and other  phallic symbols as the reason
for thing. Look at the modern day tie symbolism.
Females make pottery. Look at the tight skirt symbolism

But as scientists we have to see beyond our sex drive to what is the truth as
best as we can.

That's a roundabout way of saying human brain development was probably more
from stong mother/child bonds and other strong social behaviors than tool
making.
