This is where we ended.

"Alas, we are still at the same point as in june/july: the trace file
needs to be created from a 1.6.10 or 1.7.0 driver (rather than the
knwon-to-be-functional 1.5.0) with all units attached. Some tricks may
be required to make the system boot, f.e. temporarily REMming out the
drivers from CONFIG.SYS which are causing hangs or other problems.

To follow was not difficult.  However, I was never able to get useful data.

Don't yet have?  OS/2 boot problems are NOT rare.  But productive, 
general diagnostic approaches seem to be.
