From: Bill Lucy
I've been screwing around lately with the electoral numbers, and decided to
post the most recent information here. I'm posting two spreadsheets,
CurrentEV.xls and CurrentEV-Bill.xls. The first is a fair taste of the
current "standings" without giving consideration for the
"battleground" states. It represents the most recent polling data
for that state (but see note 1 later for exceptions). If a candidate is 5
or more points up on the other candidate I note the margin and give that
candidate the electoral vote for that state. If the margin is less than 5
points, neither candidate gets anything. In the second sheet, I'm giving my
guesses on the current standings in the battle.
Note 1: There are a number of states that have had no polls since the 2000
election. I use the results of the prior election to determine the
"winner". Hence, Alaska goes to Bush and the District of Columbia
goes to Kerry. Also, the last poll in Virginia (Bush ahead by 18 points) is
from November of 2003. All other polls are March or later.
Note 2: If Nader is on the poll (not necessarily the ballot) of the state,
or was in the 2000 ballot of that state, a plus sign ("+") is
listed under "Nader?". There is no state which he would win in
current polling.
Note 3: Hey, play around with it. If you think the numbers are screwy, I'll
tell you the source. If you have newer numbers, I'll plug 'em in.
I'm not taking this too seriously, BTW. I'm just "playing with numbers".
