Suitability for movies doesn't really correlate to suitability for a PC
display AFAICT.

Go play for a while on laptop row at Office Depot. I think you'll find
screens any shorter in relation to their width just won't seem
appropriate, particularly when you remember that most web sites are
fixed at ~760px wide. Manufacturers generally won't for long build what
people don't buy.

It might also be that driver math at 1.6:1 is simpler than at
1.777777777777777777777:1.
