There is considerable speculation about why he was "invited" to leave, but it most certainly was not about the prison abuses. The CIA is only peripherally involved in that scandal. It is the army and the DoD that will take the heat for that. My guess is that the White House had to produce a scapegoat for the WMD blunders. The primary culprits are Rumsfeld and Cheney, but Bush is not about to do anything about either. On the other hand, they had even Powel demanding that Tenet justify the CIA intelligence information Powel used in his UN address. When you think about the people involved and who they are, it is obvious that Tenet was the most expendable. It seems rather far out, but it may even be the public rift between Tenet and Chalabi that is responsible. That kind of thing, if it were to continue, inevitably would involve Rumsfeld and Cheney given how close they were to Chalabi. What better way to silence that squabble than to get rid of Tenet. There is at least something in that idea, but admittedly not much in my view. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
