 -> record about 400 lines or resolution, why make the electronics in it able

 -> reproduce resolution of over 700 lines?  This would seem to only add 
expense

A recent issue of TV Technology explored this question.  It's pretty 
technical, but the bottom line is that the higher resolution cameras can
generate better contrast, especially in fine detail, even though the
recording doesn't capture the actual resolution.
