Have you persued this option?

Has Dani made any suggestions that involve using the kernel debugger? Can
the trace data be captured via the serial port?

I don't have time to worry about these. I never assume I will encounter
every possible failure that others encounter and I don't. This is a good
thing or life would be rather unpleasant

In my experience they are, but I am a small data set. IAC, the the boot
problems I do get involved with seem to differ enough so that no one data
collection method fits all of them. However, I suspect, my general
approach to data collection and troubleshooting does not differ all that
much from those you use in your day to day engineering work.

All diagnostic approaches involve some sort of divide and conquer. Look
at the available data and if it is not sufficient to determine the source
of the problem, try to determine what is not a reason for the problem and
remove these elsements from the test setup.

As you are finding with this particular system the ability to easily
gather the data needed to make these decisions is not always trivial.

Steven
