What an experience it is to have a Grey Parrot. In this case his name is
Suggie and he leaves my in awe most of the time.
Suggie did not start talking until he was a year old. He would, however, sit
with his back to me and mumble. Then one day out came some words. I guess
that he was practicing getting them perfect before projecting them to the
world. I do believe that Grey parrots are perfectionist.
It has been an amazement to me at how quickly he picks up what I am saying to
him. He looks at me with absolute attention and within two days he projects
the phrase that I am speaking to him. (He has also picked up a few things
that
I didn't entend for him to learn.)
A few weeks ago I walked up to him and said, "I'm sooo smart." I repeated
this
over a couple of days, probably 10 times, before he started to say it. It
really is neat hearing your Grey Parrot telling you that he is soooo smart.
This morning I tried to add, I'm so pretty. After saying it a couple of times
I sat back down to the computer. Suggie is talking away until he comes to
"I'm soooo." And this is as far as he went. Several times more he said, "I'm
soooo" and never went any further. Then he bacame silent.
Suggie has quite a vocabulary and I have the intention of taping it one of
these days. But, this has really stumped him. Do you think he is wondering if
he is "so smart"...or "so pretty". I am curious to see how he works this out.
