It's TRUE!  I once saw a really informative doco on SBS when explained the

origins of the facsimile machine in France.  It was interesting to see how

they overcame the the fundamental problem with facsimile transmission -

synchronising the machines at each end.



I can't remember enough of it to give you any real info on it - check out

your local library some time.
