Now how about that! The other end [the caller] uses a Tel 424 [Dataplex]
modem. So you sure are on the right track in your theory.

Of course its always the case of 'you get what you pay for'. However, the
problems above mentioned excluded, it's not bad. 99% of my callers to the
BBS that are >= 24000bps connect and remain connected [ie do not drop
the line] for the duration of their call - upto 1:30hrs on line.

Its a typical Rockwell chipset modem. Not too sure if thats go or bad. (:
