HG{at}> Hi Daryl,

Hi, Holger,

HG{at}> I don't know those programs and am satisfied with the way CCleaner and
HG{at}> AVG keep up the guard.

If it works for you, and you have a way to "practice safe hex", you
should be OK. While you're not likely to see stuff for MS-DOS, or older
Windows systems (3.x, etc.), it may still be out there.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are some who do NOT "practice safe hex".

Several years ago, a user uploaded a harmless TSR to the BBS, which you
could set after a certain number of keystrokes, it would display a bizarre
ANSI message...such as:

1) Flashing letters saying "Get Back To Work".
2) A clown sticking his tongue in and out.
3) A message asking "What are you looking at??".
4) A message saying "The boss is behind you right now".

  LOL!!

Unfortunately, I lost that in a crash years ago...but it was a harmless
TSR.

A fellow ham radio operator "got the attention" of the Chief Information
officer at his workplace last week. He got a bunch of these USB thumb
drives, and wrote up a simple program to start typing stuff on the screen.
He gave it to his CIO, who thought it was a PowerPoint presentation...
imagine the shock when the deal started typing on its own!!

What was funny is that the CIO asked him "can you send up an email, and
get some more of these??", because the guy was always harping on security
at the workplace. He laughingly agreed, and quipped "I wonder how many will
fall for this, and end up calling tech support".

I heard of this on a packet BBS net this past Monday...and I told him
that "you better be glad your CIO has a sense of humor". The Net Control
typed that "If I tried that at my workplace, I'd be out of a job!!".

HG{at}> Neither did we have much of a winter, but the little there was, hit me!

Around here, people think they can stop just as fast on a rainy, wet,
snowy, or icy pavement, as they can on a dry pavement. My response to
that is what was on one of these "Hip Ham T-Shirts", that I saw a
license exam candidate wear to a test session. It said on it "Whiskey
Tango Foxtrot??".

When I first looked it, it didn't register...then, it clicked, and I said
"Oh, !!". He replied "That was my reaction
when I opened the
Amateur Extra Class exam book (the top license in the U.S.).

But, in so many things in life, as Forrest Gump said "Stupid is as
stupid does". I saw an image on Facebook, where this squirrel was
praying "Lord, please stop the stupid people from breeding. We're
being overrun down here". :P
