Rather you should run one of the free clean-up programs, like CCleaner. That way you'll get rid of a lot of trash that slows the boot process. I'm using that program myself. EV> The C:\ Partition is NTFS and has 194GB Used with 30GB Free = 224GB With NTFS partitions there's no need to run a diskfrag program. EV> The D:\ Partition is FAT32 and has 8.06GB Used with 434MB Free = EV> 8.48GB Total The D:\ partition shouldn't slow down the boot process, since I imagine that everything needed is on C:\. Starting up programs from D: could benefit from a diskfrag. EV> The pc has 3GB DDR 400 RAM and uses a 8.9GB Pagefile.sys file. 3Gb RAM should be more than needed for XP or XPpro. I have considerably less in my Thinkpad/XPpro. and doing well, but OTOH I'm not much for picture editing, but looking at'em is OK. On another note: You may have got the impression that I have been badly hurt/wounded in an accident. It ain't so. Broken bones are usual here when we have snow and ice, which is the rule during the winter. On Jan 2nd I slipped on an ice patch an fell on my left hip. I knew immeadetely that my left leg was broken, and xray's at the hospital told that the neck of the femur was broken. A 3 hour operation and almost two weeks in hospital and more than a month at the rehab center followed before I could get home. 73 de Sam, OH0NC aka Holger ..
