when I was living in wilson and running telegard softare. I had 4 nodes. 1 was 
dialup and only friends that I met on other telnet boards would ccall. no 
local traffic at all. but if I run a dialup I wouldn't care where they're 
from. although I would hope some if not most local users used the board. as 
for ads. I used to post ads on synchronet and fido. along witha few other 
nets. mostly fido and dmine brought the traffic though

I had the same problem. so I removed the real info stuff. no real addy, tele 
or even name. I used to say. just make it sound more real than john doe. the 
only thing I asked of my users was to obey the rules of the local bases. each 
had their own 'laws' if you will. and I didn't go to far to enforce 'em
