that is interesting .. indeed. it falls into line with what i have read of
the propocol. yet, what i see here support my original statement which is
based in part on what i understand of the (forgive me i'v put my manual
away and cant quote chapter and verse) cluster of regester/at cmds that
control the connect and fall back/fwd sequences and the associated protocol
activity.

if what you are saying is true (eternal skeptic here, sorry) it is starting
to look like or should i say then it appears that the bank of netcomm
m11f's that i'm ringing at my isp and the several indipendant maestros that
i call regularly which are on bad lines are actually taking matters into
thier own hands and choosing to "randomly" yet in a consistant
sort of manner drop the connection rather than fallback as the protocol
would suggest. sorry about the double talk .. i have no other words for
what is going on here. it has taken me twelve monts to get this far and its
not very far but one step closer is alway an important gain.

i still cannot explain the several orders of magnitude, performance,
connectivity, reliability, user satisfaction or all of the above that my
deskporte fast+ seems to have lost in comparison to the "old" vfc
only model i used to have. compound this with the patriotic fervour that
most owners us to defend thier modem .. it is a truely frustrating
environment in which to troubleshoot bad connects, line dropouts and or
poor transfer rates.

thanks for your time.

regards ... jonathan
