I've been collecting some here and there,  though I haven't really managed to 
acquire all that many of them.  Best candidate so far uses LM317 chips and 
you select both the voltage and the maximum current you want by picking 
resistors out.
Lots of the chargers I've looked at for automotive applications seem to use 
an SCR with a zener diode and a few other components associated with it,  but 
I have yet to generalize on that arrangement to the point where I can get 
what I want out of it.  Seems to taper off depending on the voltage of the 
battery, near as I can tell.
Any schematics,  circuit descriptions,  or any other sort of stuff you might 
have would be more than welcome here.
At this point I've got an assortment of small nicads plus a couple of group 
27 deep cycle wet batteries,  and about eight 33 AH gels and four 10 AH gels 
on hand to deal with.  This is only going to get worse!
