     Hi,
        I have a Hayes 28.8 also and this feature doesn't seem to make
        all that much difference.  We have some very bad lines out here
        in the country and I haven't noticed it dropping down all that
        much.

        The 3 setting will drop down the speed if you start getting a lot
        of errors but on most connects here it hasn't made much of a
        difference.
