Thanks for this suggestion.  I didn't think of doing this.

I've gone ahead and installed the latest snap and decided to suffer
through the 5 min wait for the wps to start.  It is certainly worth
it.  The stretching effect is much reduced.

Now I have to do it again to make my custom config.  The recommend
resolution of this screen is as above, 1680x1050
