sounds like the problem i'm having with one of my regulars he has just
moved to a all spanking new exchange and me here in coogee exchange has
been refurbished with all the digital stuff and clean copper all the way
back to the rack .. yet when ever it (hayes optima 28k8 vfc/v34) connects
it stays on for a couple of minutes and to quote the lad "sounds like
a crossed line". i might try leaving the sound on and see what i hear
... funnily, enough michaels hayes behaves itself when i log on and the
connection run to finality some 2+ hours.

though recently i've been seeing some ring/handshake/hangup sequences where
my deskporte fast+ thinks its talking to a 300 baud modem.

with respect to the other hayes, i never experience any problems and it was
remarked that my deskporte was the best (throuput efficiencies) session of
all that were made on the daily roster. i think to many tings have happened
to make an easily quantifiable judgement about this one. we both have new
exchanges, i went from bink back to fd v2.20c ml (er, commercial), we both
moved house and i got a new modem and two flashrom upgrades in quick
sucession.

yet, even more change is on the horision i'm about to dump fd in favour of
xenia or this new thing mcmail (though i think xenia may win in the long
run because of mr lentz's history and proven track record (he co authored
hydra protocol)).

i'd be surprised if all (significant majority) of my problems cleared up at
the change over but then again maybe not .. sigh.
