I think what "JC" is trying to say is that carts can have special
upgrade chips inside them. CD's can't. Remember the old NES carts? I can't
remember the name of the chip right now, but without that chip that was
inside the cart, games like Metroid and Zelda weren't possible. The one thing
to remember is this- great gameplay makes a great game, not great graphics
alone. PSX is far from being maxed out, as is the N64 or even the Saturn for
that matter. The only systems I've seen "maxed out" so far are the Atari
2600, the NES, the SNES, and the Genesis. All the other systems either
weren't out long enough or haven't yet been out long enough to be at their
"peak."
As for who will rule the next system wars; that is still debatable. Just
because Sony is in the lead now, does NOT guarantee that they will be in the
lead for the next generation of consoles. Just remember, generation leaders
went something like this- Atari, Nintendo, Sega/Nintendo, and now Sony. (From
what I've read, the 16-bit war was close, but the edge goes to Sega.) My
opinion on the leader of the next generation of systems is that Sega will be
on top. The Dural (or the Katana as some are calling it) will be in the right
price range and is the greatest piece of hardware released by Sega since the
Genesis. It is very powerful and very easy to program for. Seeing as how this
generation has failed to sell as well as the previous generations, I'd guess
that a lot of people are waiting for something that is powerful enough to not
be obsolete in 2 or 3 years. Everybody can argue my opinion, but I think I've
stated some very good facts.
