I'm running 10 lines of Maximus/2 with the Digi PC/8e (2 internal
modems).
Unfortunately, the 28.8 modems we've tried on it seem to encounter
random pausing, which sometimes ends up with a disconnect.  The first
modem was a USR Sportster, so I thought it might be the delay bug that
I've heard about, but then I replaced it with a USR Courier
v.Everything, which also shows the same symptoms.  Tonight, however, I'm
going to install a GVC 28.8, to see what happens.
The other lines are running USR Sportster 14.4's without a hitch.
