Errors on the download are usually UART related. What comm program are you
using? Note: if you're using a DOS comm program in Windows 3.1, comm.drv
will _not_ enable the UART buffer. You need to use a better comm driver,
like cybercom.drv or upgrade to Windows 3.1.
Try running the DOS com program directly from DOS, not through Windows.
On the locking issue: The modem can be configured to operate "straight
through" using the same speed on the DCE side (modem to modem) as on the DTE
side (modem to computer). This is generally called "autobaud" when applied
to modems. It's not desireable in most cases. On the comm program side,
there is an option to "lock" the port speed. This is really a poor term
(nothing is "locked") and what it means is the comm program will _not_ set
the DTE speed to match the modem CONNECT speed.
You want your modem configured with "autobaud OFF" or a "fixed serial port
speed" and you want your comm program configured the same way. (It probably
is or you'd be having _real_ problems).
