JS> My local GTE phone service had a no installation fee special on a second
JS> phone line to my house..
The most common problem with multiple lines is bleed-through. The two main
causes are 1) the phone company using cheap wire to run the second line, and
2) having a cheap two-line phone.
You can obviously fix number 2 yourself, but number 1 is a bit harder.
Unfortunately, the FCC is a little behind the times on there baud
requirements. They require the phone company to maintain voice/data lines at
2400 and fax lines at 14,400. Now, why the lump data in with voice instead
of fax is beyond me. And, unfortunately, even if you tell the phone company
it's a fax line, they won't be concerned as long as you get 14,400+.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,
Robby
