BS> Well, some of them at Yellow Jersey were made in Europe (Italy?
BS> France?), and I think the ones that fit me the best were Nike's (they
BS> had a different problem, actually, the holes for the clip for clipless
BS> pedals fell right under the ball of ones of my feet [and only one!])
BS> So, maybe, the problem IS the country of origin for the shoes-- esp.
BS> since "American" brands are also, mostly, made in Shanghai, Taiwan,
BS> Japan, et al. (Are the American companies too cheap to send lasts for
BS> big, American feet over-seas? Is it a CONSPIRACY?! Is their a
BS> logical explaination why the Americas market can't get decent shoes?
BS> Enquiring minds want to know!!! :-)
BS> In the meanwhile, I guess I'll stick to the boots I've been getting at
BS> K-Mart. (Their Northwest Territories stuff are pretty good deals.
BS> Even better than their discount racks!) :-)
Heck, when I was on active duty for over 20 years and wore the regular
GI shoes in a size 9D, and then when I retired I had to buy 10 1/2
to 11 EE in order to get one big enough, and then they did not fit
right. Sheesh. Then I went to a Boot Shop and had custom made Cowboy
boots made, wow what a difference. Then I tried to find a walking
shoe that would be comforetable. I finally found that Florsheim made
a pretty decent shoe of that type. In a 10 1/2 EE. I wear them to
ride the ol' Trek 850. They do the job OK. I don't wear the toe
clips or whatever you call them. They didn't have such a thing back
in the 30's and 40's when I was riding the old North American Flyer,
or the Henderson racer I had.
