Hi Felix (& the others who replied), I'm suspecting this is related to a CPU problem. I must now try to figure out what the real reason is: 1) Bad CPU 2) Bad MB 3) Bad PS (just replaced in December 2005) 4) Some combination of the above I have 2 case fans (F & R), the fan on the PS and the CPU fan so my system was always noisy, But now that I have the cover off the computer I can hear pretty severe bearing rattle in the ACX cooling fan. Also, I can feel no rise in temperature from the CPU even after leaving the computer on for an hour. Hey I am an HP contract tech who deals with 99.9% new HP equipment but even I know, especially with an AMD Athlon, I should feel some heat from the heat sink or fan after only a minute. So for some reason it appears the CPU has zero power or is dead. Before it went totally dead it started crashing after being on 10 minutes, then 5 minutes, then 1 minute after entering the WPS. And this was after winter was over & my apartment temperature was rising. IOW, it got progressively worse as the heat went up. Thanks for the troubleshooting links. I will try to explore them as time permits. For now I think I'm going to yank the Win2K HD from my ECS Duron system and install the 2 eCS drives. Then the real work starts. Any way I look at it, with only two PCI slots and no AGP slot, the cheap ECS Duron system will lack something. On my Athlon system I had a sound card, a TV card, a (AGP) video card, and a midi port. On the Duron it seems to be a choice of two of the above: video, sound, TV or midi. It lacks a midi port onboard plus heaven knows if onboard sound or video works with eCS. If I can get the onboard video working I can put a sound card & TV card in. If I get the onboard sound working then I can put a PCI video card and TV card in but I won't have my midi port. If I can't get either onboard thing working then I'll have to put in a video card & a sound card. I'd have midi but not the TV card. What I'd give for just one more slot! My other choices for eCS are a Dell Celeron 700, an HP Celeron 450 or my test system with either a P3 450 or a P2 500. Lots of RAM though. I could increase any of them to 768M to 1 G of RAM now!
