Dear Bill,

=> You're definitely one of the lucky few then, Doug. Of the two
=> 1414VQEs I used here for a while, neither would detect BUSY nor
=> DIALTONE, but it was little more than a minor niggle at worst. That
=> aside, the modems worked just fine.

We have recently sold ASKEY (Dynalink) 1414s (last year). We are still
¨getting them back! At least 50% have come back at least once.

I have also noticed (today the 7th of Feb) that there is now only one
AUSTEL ¨approved Dynalink - the 1414 external with Rockwell chip.

While I understand that ability to detect Australian tones has no bearing
on ¨the quality or performance or even the AUSTEL approval of a modem - ¨I
have a feeling that perhaps the Dynalinks that did not detect the
Australian ¨tones were really only FCC approved. Otherwise why did some
units detect the
signals while others (the same models) did not?

Regards,

John (The Diamond Group)
