Thanks, it now works well (after a couple of necessary changes for reasons I 
cannot remember) with a 16Kb paragraph size (or bigger if it'll read from 
where it left off and not from the next 'line').
It also gave me the extra little bit I needed to deal with another 
programming challenge where I needed to use string-like variables which 
aren't strings.
FTR, this is being used solely to make messages technically compliant.
