| subject: | USR Courier V34 problems |
PE> At this stage, I will not be touching the USR Courier with a barge pole. PE> my plan was actually to drop down in price to either a Netcomm PE> or a Yum Cha modem. My logic being that if I'm going to have PE> problems, I may as well spend the least amount of money to get them. Yes, but its likely that a Yum Cha would have atleast as many problems as the USR and you cant readily just drop in new code if USR does fix the current warts. Corse you do save half the price of a USR too. Does Paul want his USR, he might like to flog it to you for less than retail so he can buy something different with the cash himself. PE> On this system I have run a Spirit Thunder, which had heaps of PE> problems, a Spirit Viper for a week, which only had minor problems, PE> and a USR, which had heaps of problems. If I were to go for the PE> Netcomm or Yum Cha I would be running blind, so you could argue PE> that I should get the Spirit Viper, but I didn't have long enough PE> with the modem to properly test it, and besides, I am really pissed PE> off with MBE's attitude to NOT fixing the Spirit double-send problem. True, I've always been keen on punishing the bastards for lousy service. Corse that also means that Netcon is a problem too. PE> And the Netcomm has a problem right from the start. It doesn't connect PE> to various USR Couriers at 28800. The USR Courier is a real-world PE> modem, and I want to be able to connect to it with my new modem. True, and some very real doubts about how dedicated Netcon is to fixing that problem too. PE> Since it's a bit of a tossup, I think I might go for the PE> Netcomm, because at least I can ring them up locally, and PE> get other people to try dialling the Netcomm board, etc. Maybe. OTOH you can argue that atleast with the USR you can change ALL the code with minimal effort if a fix does turn up for the residual warts. And they do appear to be prepared to work on them most of the time. OTOH its still rather overpriced IMO, particularly when compared with yum cha modems. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/809 934 |
