James, Get the current issue of Home Power! There's an article on
this very subject, with instructions for building a phantom load
measuring device. (One note - the exact resistor size is not
important, according to the author in an email message to me.)

10kW is the _maximum_ output. That means if the wind speed is at the
max rated value, it will put out 10 kW (watts are an instantaneous
measurement of the RATE of power use). If it ran at the speed for an
hour it would put out 10 kWh. If it ran at that speed for 30 _hours_
it would put out 300 kWh. 
The "monthly output" depends entirely upon your wind speeds. Get
some average wind speed data, look at the machine's power curves and
you could make a seat-of-the-pants guess at the monthly output.
