Hello Alan.

The boot drive consistes of two identical (Prefered) hard drives. Data
is written/read to both drives. Each drive is a mirror of the other. If one
drive goes bad the other will continue on. The primary use of mirrored
drives is data integrity and drive/system uptime. I also have several
striped drives
in another machine. There I have two drives that the OS looks at as one
large drive. Striping helps with drive speed but does have a large potential
problem. If either of the striped drives goes bad all data on both drives is
lost.
