Switches 1, 2 & 3. Selects bits per character for asynchronous operation,
or transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) clock (C) for synchronous operation.
Factory set to 10 bits Asynchronous.

 Switches 1 2 3 1=on 0=off

          1 0 0 Asynchronous 8 bits
          1 1 0 Asynchronous 9 bits
          0 0 0 Asynchronous 10 bits (Default)
          0 1 0 Asynchronous 11 bits
          1 0 1 Synchronous external TxC
          0 0 1 Synchronous internal TxC
          1 1 1 Synchronous TxC = RxC

Switch 4 - Response disable. If the hayes responses are not desired when
the modem is turned on, hten switch 4 should be set ON. This switch has the
same effect as ATQ1. Default = OFF.

Switch 5 - Echo disable. If it is not desired to echo the transmitted data
back to the terminal equipment while the modem is off-line, then switch 5
should be set ON. This switch has the same effect as ATE0. Default = OFF.

Switch 6 - DTR. Switch 6 must be ON if the terminal equipment does not
supply a DTR signal to the modem (via pin 20). Default = OFF.

Switch 7 - RTS. Switch 7 must be set ON if the termial equipment does not
supply an RTS signal to the modem (via pin 4). Default = OFF.

Switch 8 - DSR. For terminals that require DSR to be ON before operating,
switch 8 should be ON. This enables hayes commands to be sent to the modem
in the offline state when DSR whould normally be OFF. Default = ON.
