Elint assets are extremely valuable.  Most have stunning self-defence
capabilities, though not much is ever said about them.  It would be a very
brave and somewhat irrational fighter pilot who took on a Nimrod.

A conversation on a scanner - a pilot wanted to land urgently and requested
clearance.  He got it.  Then he asked for an armed perimeter guard at 100
metres to face outwards and not look at the aircraft, plus a few other
demands.  These basically got laughed at.

Then he said: "I am a class one asset."

And all the joking stopped.
