Doug Attig said in a message to Larry Shutts:

Not necessarily, Doug.
And that's the basic problem.
If a system that is downstream of Planet Connect sends a message upstream,
that message, if successfully routed, will get all the way to the
satellite, be broadcast, and all Planet Connect subscribers should see that
message.
However, if Planet Connect, for whatever reason, is unsucessful in
transferring that message to John Souvestre's system (1:396/1), or John's
system has problems transferring the mail to George Peace's system
(1:270/101) -- both of which have occurred often enough to be considered
repeatable -- then the downlinks of those NON-PlanetConnect systems will
not see the messages in EITHER echo.
DA> The difference is that those getting Fido from Planet Connect will
DA> receive messages faster than those getting it from landline
DA> feeds.
Actually, I think you'll find that due to delays in satellite broadcast
techniques that, in many cases, the transmission delays to PlanetConnect
subscribers are -longer- than they are to landline subscribers.
It takes about 24 hours for messages from your net to get to my side of the
backbone and on my system. (About two to three hours of that is inside my
mail coop.)
Normal routing times from other nodes who receive mail via non-PC
distribution systems is six to eight hours.
I'm working on building a log of all the Interecho Tournament messages that
will include post times, receipt times, and distribution paths -- the
results should be interesting. (I hope.)
DA> But all WILL get them.
What -will- be of great advantage is that this tournament has two
moderators from two different distribution paths looking for the -same-
messages in two different echos.
If there does exist a mail routing problem, we'll know about it for sure by
the time this first round ends!
