VGA affects pixel addressing on LCD panels. That's why many panels have
phase controls, to accurately align the horizontal clock in the LCD panel
with the dot clock in the video chipset. If it's not set right, pixels can
"jitter" sideways by one pixel. CRTs don't have that problem,
because they don't have to match a given pixel to a specific onscreen
element. Actually that's not quite true, moire effect can be a problem
(where the pixel spacing happens to match the phosphor dot/stripe spacing).
But this has nothing to do with the use of magnetic deflection per se. I
agree that a CRT doesn't have "perfect" geometry like an LCD
does, but that doesn't affect readability of text unless it's so bad that
the monitor is essentially unusable.
