Jean, I have a Thinkpad too and experienced similar formatting of text
when transferring a file to print on my desktop. I use a portable
printer with the laptop set to emulate an Epson LQ-510. The desktop
has an HP laser attached for printing.

A solution is to have the desktop printer set as default when typing
on the Thinkpad and you know you are going to transfer the file to the
desktop for printing. (You can add several different printers in
Windows even if you do not have them attached to your computer. Just
remember to set one as the default if working on a big project.)
BTW I still use WordStar (an oldie but goodie) for special things
sometimes and the same solution applies.
