subject: New TEST release of ARJ 2.55

*** FYI ***********
I have released a TEST version of ARJ 2.55 to the general public for testing
and comment. This is an ALPHA release, meaning that I expect to make
significant changes to it depending upon user feedback. I hope to go to BETA
test this September.
Included with 2.55 is:
a) Win95 long filename support under Win95 DOS box
b) Dual-name archives for compatibility with Win95 and DOS 6.
c) Data damage protection option to allow repair of damaged archives.
d) Stronger encryption using GOST standard
e) Built-in ANSI escape sequence display handler for comments and files
f) Support of multiple volume updating
g) Capability of making multiple backups to a SINGLE archive (CHAPTERS) and
capability of restoring any specific (CHAPTER) backup
h) Ability to freshen/update (add or extract) based upon OLDER or DIFFERENT
i) Hollow archives (no file data) for file integrity checking by CRC
j) Support for multiple volume (included SFXV) ARJ-SECURITY
k) Option to use XMS or DISK space to process file lists up to 32,000 files
Please tell me what you think about the new features. If you think some
features are trash, please let me know. ARJ is getting a bit on the bloated
side.
Because this version of ARJ is getting so large, I do PLAN on releasing a
smaller version of ARJ that does not contain the help or SFX modules. This
should solve some memory constraint issues.
Best regards,
