subject: Calling another batch file...

Hello Gerald!
Quoting Gerald's message:
 GM> At this point, all I can say is to move AUTOEXEC.BAT to somewhere not on
 GM> the path...
OK, here is what I tried so far:
    with the following in CONFIG.SYS:
        SHELL=C:\4DOS\4DOS.COM C:\4DOS /F
    and the following in 4DOS.INI:
        AutoExecPath=C:\4DOSEXEC.BTM
    - I removed AUTOEXEC.BAT from the root directory and kept 4DOSEXEC.BTM
Well, 4DOS booted but ignored completely 4DOSEXEC.BTM (a few environment
values set but no alias nor any TSR, etc.).
I then moved 4DOSEXEC.BTM to the 4DOS sub-directory and kept AUTOEXEC.BAT in
the root directory:
    with the following in CONFIG.SYS:
        SHELL=C:\4DOS\4DOS.COM C:\4DOS /F
    and the following in 4DOS.INI:
        AutoExecPath=C:\4DOS\4DOSEXEC.BTM
Well, 4DOS booted and loaded AUTOEXEC.BAT
I know that 4DOS read the "AutoExecPath=..." line as I entered a wrong path
and got an error message on the screen.
I even tried something else. I moved AUTOEXEC.BAT to my DOS sub-directory,
indicated the new location in the 4DOS.INI file, and rebooted the computer.
Well, 4DOS booted and went directly to the prompt (as in my first example
when 4DOS could not find AUTOEXEC.BAT in the root directory...
 GM> If 4DOS.INI could see: "AUtoExecPath = C:\4DOS\4DOSEXEC.BTM" and
 GM> AUTOEXEC.BAT was located as C:\DOS\AUTOEXEC.BAT, would that improve
 GM> the possibilities?
As mentioned above, I moved AUTOEXEC.BAT to another directory - was that what
you meant?
 GM> Number one, because both these files are in the root directory, I
 GM> think the command processor (both 4DOS.COM and COMMAND.COM) default
 GM> to loading AUTOEXEC.BAT.
Removing AUTOEXEC.BAT from the root directory did not make 4DOS load
4DOSEXEC.BTM as it should have done...
 GM> Number two, keep a bootable floppy close at hand for the possible
 GM> failure when you finally decide to relocate these two files
 GM> elsewhere.   :-))
I did make a bootable floppy just in case but did not need it as, without
AUTOEXEC.BAT, both 4DOS.COM and COMMAND.COM will boot with minimum
environment values.
 GM>  + Origin: 4DOS for one and 4DOS for all! (1:153/715.6)
Should itnot have been: "One for 4DOS, and 4DOS for all" :)
Sincerely, Raymond Beriau.
